I have done rather limited traveling in my adult life. In fact I have never really been on a proper trip in my adult life other than for work. Which was also to Melbourne a few years back. (I still need to post those pics actually. haha) Ever since I was determined to go back and take my girl with me.
Well work had officially started to just get too much and Lisa and I were both in need of a dire break. So I organized a quick knee jerk whirlwind trip to lovely Melbourne for a weekend. It was great timing really since it was Christmas and Melbourne was a blaze with energy. There was even a massive Lego Christmas Tree all made up in Federation square… ’cause you know, when you can’t be bothered growing one, make one out of Lego. haha
The other great thing which I hadn’t even factored for was that it was the 60th anniversary of the MYER’s xmas window displays. It was insane how huge the crowds were for this all day long… luckily I was up at the crack of dawn the next day and got to snap a few of the displays with my phone.
Despite it being Christmas my favorite thing is still just to walk the streets of Melbourne to see what I can see. We had spent most our time on the northern side of the river so we decided to go for a wander on the southern side.
The southern side had weird things going on from the north, buildings being attacked by giant golden bees. 😉
Dealing with those crazy bees was thirsty work, luckily we stumbled upon the Belgian Beer Cafe Melbourne…of course I had to enjoy a tasty cool pint! 🙂
When in Melbs coffee shops are every where, among other things… who wouldn’t like to play a quiet board game while they enjoy their pick me up brew?
You have to love the food in Melbs, not every day you’d see signage like this here in lazy old Perth. haha… so wrong it has to be right…
At Christmas in Melbourne… even the horses get tarted up!
While we were over there, Lisa and I could not help spreading the love from Perth. A little project Lisa had been keen on undertaking while over there….I was happy to oblige with my covert putering upp’ing skills!! haha
…but in the end, nothing beats golden hour on the streets of Melbourne. Magnificent!
As much as the golden hour caused by the setting sun is spectacular, it also unfortunately signifies the end of our quick little whirlwind trip. I already miss Melbourne and absolutely cannot wait to go back for another visit! 🙂
:edit: – just realised I hadn’t posted my shots from my last trip to Melbourne for work back in 2013. So just posted a few, It’s a bit eerie in comparison. haha
